Weekly Runs and events

SUNDAY

New Weekly Runs are starting November 23rd, Sundays at 8:30 a.m. Meet at the store for a 4-7 mile run followed by coffee and hot chocolate. Great way to start your Sunday! (On the second Sunday of the month in winter we will meet at the official Central Oregon Running Klub Hot Chocolate Runs at 9 a.m. at Shevlin Park instead.)

Wednesday

Our Wednesday weekly runs are becoming Headlamp runs! All are welcome! We start at 6 p.m. and usually will run between 3-5 miles. Don't have a headlamp? No worries. We always have extra ones for you to borrow and we keep them in stock as well. We will have two "run leaders." One group will be the 10+ Min/Mile pace and the other will be around 8-9 min/mile pace.

These are mellow runs and NO ONE should be intimidated. We would just love to have you come out and join the fun and learn some new running routes.

Yoga for athletes

Okay, please tell me that some of you are like me….. You’ve wanted to try out yoga but are as stiff as a branch on a dead tree and don’t want to embarrass yourselves at a yoga studio. You also want to make sure that you are getting a workout that will compliment your running or walking program.

Our new Yoga for Athletes class is going strong! We are moving the racks and making space every Wednesday evening at 7 p.m., after our Wednesday group run. Join us for our free group run and then bring five bucks for a yoga class! How cool is that? We hope to make Wednesday your favorite evening of the week. Call the store, 389-1601, if you need more info.

Strength Training for Athletes

You asked. So, as promised, here it is. Like our yoga program, we have put together a strength training program tailored specifically for you, the walker or runner.  This will be a drop in $5 program. Cynthia Ratzman is a fantastic personal trainer from Accelerated Fitness who is offering a customized program for you to increase your strength and improve your sports performance. Give it a try. We promise you'll feel it the next day. This program will be on Monday nights at 6 p.m., with the first one on Dec. 1.

Stroller Runs

Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m., pack up the bambino(s) for a nice 45 minute run at a relaxed pace. Check out KOHD's news coverage of our weekly stroller runs here!

Thoughtful Thursdays at Fleet Feet Bend.

Bring your aches and pains to physical therapist, Tonya Olson (see in the photo on the right). She is at Fleet Feet Bend on the second Thursday of each month at 5:00 p.m. to consult with you on whatever ails you... She will not be wearing her mask... we think.

Central Oregon Running Klub runs:

Saturday, 8 a.m. meet at Drake Park near the restrooms

Hot Chocolate Runs: Second Sunday of the month at Shevlin Park at 9 a.m.

Trail Bandit Series

Our Trail Brandit Runs are over for 2008. Check back in the Summer of 2009 for more chances to be a bandit.

More info about the bandits: In the summer of 2008, Fleet Feet Sports was proud to announce the monthly “Trail Bandit” series. These are trail runs that introduce people to some new trails in the area and get you off of the “same old trails” that we find ourselves running all the time. There is no fee for these trail runs. And, while they are not races, we add a trail marker or two so you don’t get lost, have some water and electrolyte drink for ya if the distance warrants it and throw in a few prizes, not necessarily for the fastest runner.  These are definitely no fee, pure fun events. So, next summer, bring your sense of adventure, some sturdy shoes, and get ready for a good time with good people.

Slide Shows and Special Events

Don't miss our Winter Warriors program, a free program where you work out with us in the winter time and you get free things...  where's the catch?  There isn't one. We're cold. We want you to inspire us to keep moving. :) Click here for more details.

Thank you for the Mt. Kili slide show, Simon!  If you missed the event, let us know you are interested and we can put you in touch with Simon and hopefully we'll be able to recruit him back to Bend for another show next year!

Ultra runner and the world record holder for the fastest ascent and descent of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Simon Mtuy was here from Tanzania to share his amazing photos and experiences as a guide on Mt. Kilimanjaro.  Check out Simon's company and website, Summit Expeditions and Nomadic Experience!

Simon Mtuy is a professional mountain and safari guide. Summit Expeditions and Nomadic Experience, SENE, was founded by Simon P. Mtuy, a  Chagga tribesman. He's also a director of the U.S. 501 (c ) 3 nonprofit called "Hope through Opportunity". In 2004 Simon set the world record for the fastest unsupported ascent and descent of Kilimanjaro (19,340 feet) in 6 hours up and 2 hours, 27 minutes down; he has over 350 ascents of the mountain. Simon is in the United States to participate in several ultra marathons as well as the Western States 100-mile endurance race (he's been in the top 30 in the race since 2002.) He feels that the local people of Tanzania should develop profitable, sustainable, locally owned and operated businesses that promote their beautiful country while contributing to her well-being. He founded Summit Expeditions and Nomadic Experience and is the only Chagga tribesman and mountain guide to own his own expedition business. He employs local villagers, which in turn strengthens their relationship to the mountain and surrounding land.
